Hop Barley and the Alers
Recipe: Mild Ale
for 5 gallons

Fermentables
- 5 lb pale malt
- 1 lb Belgian aromatic malt
- 1 lb English crystal 80L
- 0.5 lb torrified wheat
- Extract users: try 4 lb pale extract + 1 lb munich extract
Hops
- 5-7 HBU English hop (Challenger, Cluster, EKG, whatever) for 60 min
- 0.25-0.5 oz English aroma hop for 0-10 min (EKG is nice)
Procedure
- mash about 150-152F for 60 min
- no sparge or just 1 batch sparge for extra maltiness
- ferment with an English ale yeast (1028, 1368) or even Wyeast 1272 American Ale II
- OG 1032-1036
- primary will be done quickly, 3-4 days
- secondary for 5-10 days, just enough to clear it
- best to prime with 0.5 C corn sugar and serve as Real Ale
