I wanted to pass the word that the Firkin Friday tonight is an Apple Cinnamon Ale. Last week the Dry Hopped Dale's was quite good, the Dale's from the Strannahans barrel was even better.

Double Dry Hopped Gordons (2/5/2010 5PM)
For those that are fans of Gordons, a double dry hopped version will be tapped today (Friday) at 5PM. I hope to see you there.
Belgian Stout
The style this week is a belgian stout. I will tweet my thoughts on it at brewtooth on twitter. I plan to be there for the tapping if anyone is in the area.
Comments On the Apple Cinnamon
I spoke with the brewer Tim about how he prepared this batch. The base beer is a new ESB they have been playing with. He then took 12 lbs of apples (Fuji and another I can't recall) and roasted them. After roasting they mashed up the lot and poured the unfermented wort over the top. After fermentation they kegged this into a cask and added 4 tbsp of crushed cinnamon. The apple was very prevalent as well as the cinnamon. I'm not a huge fan of cinnamon in beers, so I didn't love it, but it did accomplish what the brewer was going for. They had a barrel aged Gordon's there, I spent most of my time with Gordon. I also tried their Dale's Pale Lager and really enjoyed it. It is a bit smoother than Dale's Pale Ale but has great hop aroma and flavor.
Next week is a Belgian Stout on cask, should be interesting.
